The Mesa County Coroner's Office stated that three of the teenagers, specifically the driver and the front-seat passenger, were utilizing seat belts at the time of the crash. The remaining two occupants were not restrained and were consequently ejected from the vehicle. All five individuals succumbed to injuries sustained during the accident.

The Grand Junction Police Department indicated that emergency services were not notified of the accident until approximately 7:45 a.m. on Sunday. One of the victims, 17-year-old Braden, was identified by a grandparent, Wilken. Wilken shared the heartbreaking news, stating that Braden, their youngest grandson, perished in a vehicle rollover that plunged down "5 ledges of a very steep drop off over looking the railroad tracks and the Gunnison River." Wilken added that Braden was a passenger alongside his four friends, all of whom tragically died. The grandparent also noted that the crash site was merely blocks from the family's previous residence in a ridge-top development overlooking the area.

A crowdfunding campaign launched for Braden's parents, Wade and Michelle, described him as their youngest son. The campaign highlighted the family's struggle with unexpected funeral costs while simultaneously processing their profound grief, stating, "Wade and Michelle are now facing the unimaginable pain of losing their youngest son while also carrying the weight of sudden funeral expenses."

Loved ones identified the four other teenagers involved in the crash as Tristan Tucker, Titus Gould, William Simms, and Tyler Martinez. Tristan Tucker was reportedly anticipating the start of his senior year of high school, preparing to obtain his driver's license, and looking forward to the significant life events typical for a 17-year-old, according to a family fundraiser.
