Ryan Fitzpatrick Hears Praises for New Highmark Stadium Despite Public Concerns

The recently completed Highmark Stadium, the new home of the Buffalo Bills, has recently opened its doors for preliminary events, including a preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and several open practices. While new venues typically generate excitement, early public reaction, particularly on social media, has included a range of criticisms.

Concerns voiced online have highlighted issues such as obstructed views from certain seating areas, general complaints about sightlines, and even initial feedback from players regarding the playing surface's condition. These early observations have tempered what might otherwise have been an overwhelmingly positive welcome for the new structure.

Former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, however, offers a contrasting perspective, based on feedback from his personal network. Fitzpatrick, who observed the stadium's construction before the playing field was installed, noted the disparity between widespread public opinion and individual experiences.

"Everybody has their opinions. It could be the opinion of 14 people versus the opinion of 59,000 people," Fitzpatrick commented, while discussing his collaboration with VRST, DICK'S Sporting Goods' men's activewear brand. "So, I rely on the people that I know and love the best."

Fitzpatrick relayed positive accounts from friends and neighbors who utilized his season tickets for the open scrimmage and the first preseason game.

"Everything that I’ve heard from the experience from parking to walking into the stadium, to the food, the sight lines — it’s absolutely unbelievable," he stated. "I’m excited to get my own eyes on it and get my own experience of it."

Seating Capacity and Player Field Feedback

One notable change in the new stadium is its reduced seating capacity, now accommodating 10,000 fewer spectators compared to the previous venue. Despite this, Fitzpatrick believes the more intimate setting, which holds approximately 60,000 fans, will ultimately benefit the Bills.

"What I know is it’s 10,000 less seats. It’s 60,000 people, but I think for the opponent that comes in there, it’s going to feel even louder," Fitzpatrick explained. "People are on top of you. You got the canopy, so noise is going to be bouncing off the canopy. I’m excited to feel the energy in that new stadium, especially in their season opener against Detroit."

Fitzpatrick is scheduled to visit Highmark Stadium on September 17 for the Bills’ Week 2 home opener against the Detroit Lions, joining the Prime Video "Thursday Night Football" broadcast team. This will be his opportunity to experience the completed facility firsthand.

Regarding the playing field, early assessments from players have varied. An unnamed Bills player reportedly told The Athletic that "The field a-- right now. But it’s early." However, linebacker Dorian Williams offered a more favorable take to the same publication.

"The grass looked good. It was cool," Williams remarked. "A couple spots kind of chunked up a little bit, but it’s better than playing on turf."

Ryan Fitzpatrick's Active Lifestyle and VRST Partnership

In the coming months, Fitzpatrick faces a demanding schedule traveling extensively with the "Thursday Night Football" crew, providing analysis for the early NFL games. This professional commitment, combined with his family responsibilities, requires a highly active lifestyle.

Fitzpatrick has partnered with VRST, a men's activewear and apparel brand from DICK'S Sporting Goods, specifically because he finds its performance and style align perfectly with his daily demands.

"For me, the authenticity of it — it just captures my vibe," he shared. "It’s not just the resort wear, it’s the active lifestyle stuff. The Limitless pants — there’s a lot of stuff that I’m pulled in a lot of different directions whether it’s running to a kid’s soccer game, or driving a carpool, or flying somewhere for ‘Thursday Night Football.’"

He emphasized the importance of both comfort and appearance in his clothing choices.

"All the different things I do, to be able to look good and feel comfortable, I think those are the two biggest things for me that made this a no-brainer for this partnership," Fitzpatrick added. "It fits my active lifestyle and it actually looks good."

Known for his distinctive vibrant colors and patterns in his "Thursday Night Football" outfits, Fitzpatrick noted that VRST is assisting him with his wardrobe this season. He values having comfortable options that also embody an updated men's style suitable for various occasions.

"You can wear it in so many different situations. That’s the biggest thing for me," he explained. "I’ll have people come up to me and ask me about the shirts, or ask me about the pants. Look, I just got off a plane, I’ve been flying all morning. I feel comfortable. I’m standing out here at a soccer practice in the same thing feeling great and looking great."
